R4 Ds Card Set Up Guide
Setting up the R4 DS Card is the very first thing you’ll have to do before you can start enjoying all of the new features and functions it provides for your Nintendo DS console.
The R4 DS enables you to load a lot of games. movies, music, all useable on your Nintendo DS console. The R4 DS Card uses microSD Cards to store and load games from. So if you didn’t purchase an R4 DS Card with a microSD card combination package, you’ll have to buy a MicroSD card at your locale electronics store. This set up guide assumes you already have the microSD Card with your R4 DS.
You need to follow these steps:
Step 1: Prepare and gather the gadgets to be use. If your computer does not have a slot for the micro SD card, use the USB adapter that comes with the R4. Almost all computers have a USB port. It does not need to be a USB 2.0 port, it can be a USB 1.1 port as well, as it will work. The only thing you’ll notice is that it takes a little bit longer for your files to be loaded onto the card. But it should not be a tremendous difference, simply because most of the files are rather small.
Step 2: Slip the micro SD card into the USB adapter that comes with the R4 and then insert the USB adapter into a USB port in your computer. Go to “My Computer” and click on “Removable Disc” for the drive that corresponds with the USB adapter. This will vary with each computer. It may say UNTITLED or may list it as an SD Card or MEMORY Card. You’ll know because it will be assigned a drive letter. Your hard drive always being the C Drive, your DVD Drive always being the D: drive, and so on.
Step 3: Remove the disc that comes with the R4 and load it into your computer. Copy the files from the disc onto the micro SD card. It’s important that you copy all of the menu / firmware files to the root of your microSD Card. By the root, I mean that you should NOT put it in any type of directory on the microSD Card at all. You should click on the microSD Card removable drive icon in your My Computer, and simply copy and paste all of the files right there. If any folders are needed from the CD, they will also be copied over, but your main menu_.dat files should be on the root of the card.
Step 4: Take the micro SD card from the USB adapter when all the transferred of files is complete. Slip it into the bottom of the R4.
Step 5: Insert the R4 into the DS. Turn the DS on. If you used the R4 properly, the DS should go to the R4 screen, where you’ll be able to select what you would like to do. The selections include GAME, MEDIA and SLOT 2. For movies, music and ebooks you should always pick the middle option – the MEDIA option, as this will load the required media player for you, where you’ll be able to select the media you want to use.
Step 6: Use the R4 DS to download games for your DS. You can create files on your computer which can then be loaded to the DS via the micro SD card or the R4.
Now you are ready to use it!
