Is it safe for children to be playing with Toy Guns?
My neighbor next door seems to go great pleasure to teach his grandson 6 years age how to shoot a Toy Gun. I find this very strange, especially with the recent shooting at Virginia Tech also quite often picks up a gun and shoots him bb squirrels in your backyard, that is dangerously close to mine. Is this normal?
It is advisable, especially in very young children to discuss the use of weapons on television compared to the use of weapons in real life. Firearms are often handled carelessly in movies and on television. In addition, children watch television and movie characters shot and "killed" are often well documented. When a young child sees that same actor appear in another movie or TV show, confusion between entertainment and real life can be. It may be a mistake to assume that children know the difference between being "dead" on television and in reality. If your neighbor's child has toy guns, which may want to use them to demonstrate safe gun handling and to explain how they differ from real firearms. Even though an unsupervised child should not have access to a weapon, there must be no possibility that he or she might mistake a real gun a toy. We had toy guns when my children were small, but they used sticks and homemade "weapons" in play. Chewing my toast to oldest that looks like a weapon. So I went ahead and got toy guns for my children. I told them to never, never shoot people. They could shoot the trees or plants (Irrigation technique very well), but the goal is not to people.
